After three years of overthinking, I've created my platform to showcase my work, share my thoughts and connect with people <3
I have been focusing on the social impact of AI systems since 2018. I started as a policy researcher and expanded my activity into research, advocacy and art throughout the last three years I’ve been freelancing.
As AI tools become more and more mainstream and we are increasingly interacting with recommendation algorithms, there is some sort of fascination mixed with confusion when it comes to these technologies. Despite recent policy efforts, we cannot solely rely on regulations and tech companies’ ‘good will’ to define the terms of our phygital worlds. Without public awareness, understanding and pressure when it’s needed; the AI/platform business ecosystem will act as a monopoly-maker and an extractive force. This is why on this blog, I intend to mix personal stories, questions, encounters as starting point to share knowledge and advocate for authentic, free, equitable presents via thinking on/about/through AI.
I am interested in the negative space of AI: what is cultural, political, emotional, symbolic, economic, historical… Everything that upholds and supports the technological environment we evolve in today.
what are my intentions
My intention is that my writing becomes a vessel for me to find my voice while introducing vulnerability into spaces where these topics are usually discussed. I would love the pieces I publish here to open new discussions and attract anybody who’d like to dig into platforms, algorithms, AI tech-related topics with some personal storytelling.
how often I will publish
I don’t intend to spam your inbox! I’ve always struggled with consistency and launching self-motivated projects. I’ve also felt discouraged as the work I was doing was oftentimes shared behind screens and I wouldn’t get to interact with people enough. In order to practice dedication, I will publish a short piece every two weeks. Please know that every message, email and interaction will be a huge encouragement for me.
I welcome comments, questions, asks and just sharing. Email me at: buse@rbc.xyz
Introducing rbc.xyz
I worked with Yasmin Morgan who is a computational artist, designer and developer. I met Yasmin through the lovely AIxDesign and she came up with the idea of using AI-generated imagery for custom tarot cards I wanted to display on the site.
It took me three years to develop my personal website because I immensely struggled with “defining myself”. I tried to apply all the advice I found on the internet where you start with identifying your target audience, finding your niche etc.etc.etcc. But as a polyvalent person, multipotentialite or generalist, this just made me drown in self-doubt. I love tarot because for me it indicates an archetype, a guiding principle rather than a rigid label. Therefore, the three cards on the home page are a clin d’oeil to what inspires my methodology while keeping some of that in the dark, and unreadable on purpose.
More on what each card means to me later!
